North Korean defector Kim Chung-Seong revealed that Christianity is growing in Pyongyang despite the hardships and aggression thrown at Christians, Faithwire reports.

North Korea is named “the most oppressive place in the world for Christians” by Open Doors. Christians are forced to hide their faith and if discovered, they suffer inhumane treatment at hard labor camps, thrown into prison, and some are executed.

North Korea is named “the most oppressive place in the world for Christians” by Open Doors. Christians are forced to hide their faith and if discovered, they suffer inhumane treatment at hard labor camps, thrown into prison, and some are executed.

The country’s 25 million population are mostly atheists. However, reports say there are about 300,000 underground Christians, with 50-75,000 Christians in labor camps.

Kim escaped to South Korea in 2004 and has been a Christian missionary since then. Today, he spreads the Good News through his daily Christian radio show, reports Catholic Online.

With the aid of technology, he sends Gospel messages, Christian music, and other news and information through USB sticks and DVDs smuggled in from China.

“The one thing that the North Korean regime fears the most, and is afraid of, is the spreading of the Gospel,” he explained. “Because the Bible and the Gospel speaks [sic] the truth. Once the light shines in the dark room, there is light in the room.”

Kim called on the attendees to include North Korean Christians in their prayers. He hopes that there will come a day when everyone in the world will be able to experience religious freedom.
