Christianity Under Attack in Nigeria — CAN

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the interrogation of some members of its Trust Fund by the Department of State Services, NAIJ.com reports.

The body said the interrogation of four board of trustee members of the CAN Trust Fund indicates that Christianity is under siege in Nigeria. The BoT members, who were also leaders of the National Christian Elders Forum, were invited to the DSS headquarters in Abuja Tuesday evening.

Following the incident, Kwamkur Samuel, director of legal and public affairs of CAN, claimed that the attacks on the association has confirmed the plans by the government to turn Nigeria to an Islamic state.

“Nigerian Christians have been facing serious battles on three fronts: Boko Haram is dealing with the Church, Fulani herdsmen are against the Church and government is also on the Church,” said Samuel. “All these point to the fact that there is an underground plan to Islamize Nigeria.”

The DSS invitation came following the harassment of Apostle Suleman, founder of the Omega Fire Ministries. Later, he was invited for questioning by the secret police.

There were unconfirmed reports that other Christian leaders including former president of the Nigerian Bar Association Priscilla Kuye, and the president of NCEF, Solomon Asemota have been lined up by the DSS for invitation.

Samuel disclosed that a news agency from UK alleged that military helicopters were seen dropping arms for herdsmen and no government agency has given any explanation for that.
